Quick answer

On gameplay, the Extended Look shows a much deeper GTA 6: cover-based gunplay worthy of a real cover shooter, Jason/Lucia switching built into missions and free roam, driving more dynamic than GTA 5, and reimagined car theft (Slim Jim minigame, key cloner). All on in-game PS5 footage.

The Extended Look is our first real look at how GTA 6 plays. Here's what the PS5 footage showed on the gameplay side. Full recap in our Extended Look breakdown.

Reworked cover-based gunplay

The shootout in a skyscraper shows Jason taking cover behind walls before opening fire. Shooting now feels like a proper cover shooter: weightier, more precise, far from GTA 5's stiffer system.

Jason / Lucia switching built into the game

Character switching is central to the gameplay:

  • It works in missions (each handles part of the same situation) and in free roam.
  • Jason and Lucia aren't always together: you move between them, including their separate lives.
  • Some missions have them operate as a team (coordinated driving + combat).

More dynamic driving

Driving looks noticeably punchier than in GTA 5: tighter bends, sudden braking, a livelier vehicle feel.

Car theft reimagined

No more instant theft: Jason starts a "Slim Jim" minigame (a right-stick timed meter) to jimmy a door. Electronic-lock vehicles additionally require a key cloner before they can be stolen.
